The Resolution I Want!

The Resolution I Want!

Last night I wrote a blog explaining why I didn’t think that resolutions for the new years were the best idea and that I felt that a focus word for the year was a better way to go, you can find that blog here.

If you read last night’s blog you’ll know that I have actually went ahead chosen to make some resolutions for myself this year in spite of my feelings of resolutions and I’m keeping those to myself for now; except one. I have a resolution to read the Bible in 90 days from cover to cover. I’ve done this before, I know that I can do it, that doesn’t mean that I will do it. I’m hopeful that I will though.

Before I’ve used other peoples reading plans and while that has helped me tremendously I finally had to sit down and work out a reading plan that worked for me to help me to get through the 90 days most efficiently. Everyone should read the Bible from cover to cover, it’s a great thing to do. and it’ll keep you digging deeper.

The thing is . . . life gets in the way. You get busy, you get distracted, and dare I say; you get bored. You have to be intentional. There were phone calls that I didn’t take if I was in the middle of reading my Bible, there were TV shows I didn’t watch b/c they interfered with my evening Bible reading (especially if I was already behind), and there were chores around the house I’d put off or give myself grace on if I needed to. I like to watch the TV show, “This Is Us”, and it’s the only show I watch, I don’t really ever watch TV, and it was a bummer to not to get watch the show that I’d watched from the first episode of the first season, but OH WELL! Priorities! Be intentional! I read in my bedroom, away from distractions! Read in your bedroom or somewhere there won’t be distractions, unless you have a TV in your bedroom (by the way if you’re married and there’s a TV in your bedroom, get rid of it. The bedroom is for two things, sex and sleep, you don’t need that in there. Yes. I just said that; don’t worry, I’m practically certain that neither of my Pastors read my blog and neither do my folks or my husband: he told me he doesn’t, so we can talk sex. Sex is in the Bible, too, so there’s another reason to dig deep, you can see what the Bible says about that in regards to your life.)

If you’re serious about reading your Bible in 90 days; do it.

Read it.

If you’re not serious about reading your Bible in 90 days; do it.

Read it.

God is capable of moving and speaking to you with His words even if you’re not trying to listen. Plus, you may just learn something you didn’t know before. In fact, I’m sure of it. Every time that I read God’s word I learn something new that I didn’t know before, which I love . . . either I’m learning something new/different about what He’s done, the characters in the Bible, the time era back then, or something new about myself or the situations I am in. One of my goals in life is to be a life long learner, I love learning, and this excites me to learn new things in scripture!

If you’re going to read the Bible in 90 days I suggest breaking it up into small chunks at a time. I read for 10 – 20 minutes at a time during the day. I may wake up in the morning and read for 5 minutes or I may wake up earlier (not because I’m trying to, ha ha) and grab my phone and use the Bible app and just stay snuggled under the blankets and read for an hour, it always fluctuates, but on average I spend at least 15 minutes of reading in the morning, again in the afternoon, and again in the evening in order to accomplish this goal and to stay interested in reading. I don’t say that lightly, I love to read, but there are so many distractions and fun things to do, you know what I mean! Also set a time of day or a specific day to read if you get behind. At first I picked a day of the week that I’d use as my “Catch Up” day to read; but I gave myself way too much grace and found myself reading for six hours to play catch up one time. After that I realized that I needed to just pick a time of the day, whether it was getting up an hour early the next morning if I slacked one day or staying up an hour late that night, I was going to get it done.

You’re going to have a lot of fun doing this! I really enjoy it.

Except the book of Numbers; because there’s, well numbers. Sorry, Jesus. There’s too many numbers. I don’t like numbers. Hahaha! But seriously, it’s going to be great! I’ll leave a break down of the Bible reading plan I made for myself below, there are others on the internet that are great that you can find though. If you want to join me at my pace see the bottom of this post!

Happy New Year’s!

“Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory. The Lord has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations. He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God” Psalm 98:1-3
