Why Did They Die!?!

Why Did They Die!?!

Alright so we’re moving right through Leviticus and we’re on Day 10 of our cover to cover Bible reading plan! Jump In!

Day 10 of 90: Bible Reading Plan (Read Leviticus 8-15)

I’m not even going play with you, when I learned that Nadab and Abihu, Aaron’s sons, have both died, well I was pretty upset, were you? No, just me? I mean, just moments earlier in Vs. 8:36 we see that, “So Aaron and his sons did everything the Lord commanded through Moses”, and now you throw this curve ball at me? Sheesh!

But then they did do something disobedient. These dudes lit up a bad offering, they didn’t have the permissions to offer that fire up to Him, and in their disobedience they died; that’s why they died. Could you imagine if that were the case today? If we did that one wrong thing and we just died? But that was a hard fast rule back then, you could NOT offer the wrong offering, and seriously you couldn’t enter into God’s presences as a sinner. It was not allowed. Thank God for His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, for His work at Calvary . . . do you remember one of those miracles that happened when the veil was torn? Yeah, we get to sit in His presence now! Thank you, Jesus!

“Aaron replied to Moses, “Today they sacrificed their sin offering and their burnt offering before the Lord, but such things as this have happened to me. Would the Lord have been pleased if I had eaten the sin offering today?” Leviticus 11:19

This pleased Moses to hear these things; that Aaron was living in fear of God.

Can you imagine? The things this man saw and experienced in his life (and earlier we read that Moses told them not to mourn/”don’t dishevel your head and rend your clothes” and all I can think was . . . he did it; he acted in obedience. Could I have been so believing and faithful if my children had died? Would I have not been running around, wailing, in some sack cloth and ash or something? I don’t know, friends, I’m not sure I have such faith that could have kept me from faltering at the next offering, either, if I’d just witnessed that; but this guy; Wow. All of those ritualistic restrictions he had and then to still lose his sons. Just, wow.

I’m glad God is God and I am not. I’m also glad that we’re not required to do those offerings that were outlined in Leviticus and we don’t have to hold those rituals.

I’m glad He welcomes us to come have communion with Him; He wants us to to have intimacy with Him.

Did you read Leviticus 8-15? I can’t deal with this. So many things. So many. We’re going to circle around to some stuff when we finish this study, new blog post ideas bouncing around in my head. Enjoy the bread pic . . . all I keep thinking about is unclean food, and since bread is the best food . .. hey, you’re welcome!
