Day 13 of 90 of our Bible reading plan and we’ve just turned the page to the book of Numbers, we read Numbers 1-8.

We’re in the tent of meeting, in the Desert of Sinai, and the Lord speaks to Moses telling him to take a census of the Israelites. The Lord also told him to instruct the Israelites to send away anyone who was unclean (ceremonially) or who had a skin disease, so they wouldn’t infect the rest of the camp. The men twenty years old and older are going to be numbered; these being the ones who can go to war, so basically he’s numbering the ones who can fight in the army and it’s going to come to over 600,000 that can fight. The Levites are actually dedicated to the Tabernacle for their services and are divided into clans; the Gershonites, the Kohathites, and the Merarites. Then Moses instructs them to take the Levites from among the nation and to make them ceremonially clean and then to bring them before God, and have the Israelites lay hands on them, and for Aaron to present them before Him (the Lord) as a wave offering so they’ll be ready to do His work. If you haven’t read it, the day isn’t over, head on over and read, it doesn’t take much time to get through these few chapters and I need to head to small group.
