Happy Birthday, Mama!
I broke my glasses this past week.
I should have been keeping them in the hard case but I kept placing them in the same spot on the bathroom sink. They’ve fallen off the sink several times over the past four years. If I had to guess I’d say probably a dozen times. This time they broke right in two and where they couldn’t be fixed. I just shook my head, frustrated with myself for not taking better care of them, knowing in the back of my mind that was probably going to happen. I’m not angry about it but when it happened I said, “Bummer!”
Because of the obvious, B-U-M-M-E-R!
My 4 year old over heard me and ran into the bathroom to see what the fuss was all about. I explained to her what happened and used it as a teaching moment on why we take care of our things and the importance of listening to mommy when she says to put her toys up. I let her know that I made a mistake and as a consequence for that mistake my glasses were now broken.
My tribe knows that I wear glasses but those who don’t know me well wouldn’t know because I seldom have them on in public. I don’t like the glare when driving or outside and prefer to wear contacts. I wear my glasses for a couple hours in the evening after taking my contacts out so my eyes can “breathe”. I got my glasses when my 4 year old was a very small infant so she’s use to mama having them. (I ordered this affordable pair, I’ve found it’s cheaper to order a pair online and have my eye dr put the lens in for me in the office.)
This lovely girl has such a kind heart. She gave me hers! She even told me that I could keep them and told me, “Happy Birthday, Mama!”
(It’s not my birthday for a couple weeks, in which case if you’re shopping for something for me, I wear a size 7-day Caribbean Cruise).
Such a sweet, simple gesture completely overwhelmed my heart and I mean it just made my heart swell. My two daughters are the most incredible, kind, lovely young ladies and I’m so thankful that God has blessed me. They both have such beautiful hearts! God gives us beautiful things from broken things, no matter what situation we are in. . . I think even if it’s just glasses.
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
