Living In This Moment

Living In This Moment

Today in my Sunday school class we were talking about Mary being pregnant with the baby, King Jesus, and we discussed the angel telling her what was to be.

It got us talking about Sarah and Abraham, too. I had been reading about Sarah multiple times through the past week so I thought that was so wonderful, I mean I love it whenever the stories that I’m reading begin to coincide  (whether Bible story applications, sermons, Bible studies, etc), I just love it when God does that. He cares about the small stuff just as much as He does the big stuff and so intricately weaves things together.

We were discussing how we thought we’d react if an angel came to us telling us we were going to give birth to King Jesus.

We also talked about why or how it might be better for a person to live in the grace God’s given us.

My mind started pondering things and I was brought back to a daily devotional that my Pastor provides us every night and how one of the guest writers talked about how she was a “fixer” in one of the devotionals. I agreed with her (in my head) about the problems that arise when we try to fix things, because I’ve often tried to fix things and I related to, identify with, being a fixer as well.

So whenever we were asked this about living in God’s grace what I kept thinking was about me being a fixer, and if I’d just let God be God, and not try to help Him, then maybe some things wouldn’t be such a struggle.

When we are living for the day and in the present moment, when we don’t try to fix things, or “help God out”, that’s when we don’t go over thinking everything. We have to focus on the present, we have to be ready and willing to accept that right now is all that we have because it is! Tomorrow is a lie. But I think that whenever we live in God’s grace, that’s when we open up our hand to what He’s got in store for us and when we’re opening the door up to the opportunities and endless possibilities that await us, in Him, rather than the obstacles, hardships, and excuses! I’m relieved that I don’t have the control that I want, I know I have free will but I’m glad I don’t have all the control I wish sometimes I could have . . .  but at the same time I’m regretful for every time I haven’t lived under the freedom of my Savior since He gave me my rebirth.

“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”  Romans 6:14

All things are possible with God.

“But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  Matthew 19:26

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  Matthew 6:34

Our adversary doesn’t want us to love, to help, to work, or to succeed. Just a squirrel moment . . . This is why a day of rest is so important to me, why it’s a must, when we don’t slow down and listen (which is what our friend mentioned in class, that we must “Listen”), that’s when we’re going to get robbed. We have to create some margin. We have to makes sure there’s room for God.

God is God.

He’s good a being God.

He doesn’t need our help.

We waste a lot of time trying to work everything out for ourselves, while every night trying to give Him a little push, just a nudge in the right direction, but He’s got it all worked out for us. We need only be still; to trust, to have faith.

We must stay in relationship with Him, in communion, in prayer.

We have to be willing to talk to Him, to keep the communication open, and to even ask Him why we’re going through what we’re going through. We have to be willing to listen to what God has to say to us. We have to be willing to reach out and take His hand; He will hold our hand and walk alongside us through every step of darkness until we’re delivered out of the circumstances we’re in. He loves us too much to leave us. He’s promised He won’t (and He can’t change). We didn’t deserve to be saved but He saved us. We don’t deserve grace, but He extends it.

Just keep living in this moment, because it’s all you have. Just keep living under His grace . . . but don’t take it for granted. We like to push the envelope with our Father, see how much we can get away with, but this isn’t a game of Monopoly and life isn’t a game. That grace card shouldn’t be used as a daily get out of jail free card for people who want to be lazy and enjoy eternal riches but do whatever they please living in this moment; if you’re living under His grace, sin no longer has dominion over you.

I heard this quote once and I was told it was quoted from Francis Chan, “Lukewarm people don’t really want to be saved from their sin; they want only to be saved from the penalty of their sin.”

There are no get out of hell cards; you’ve been bought with a great price; He most certainly has extended compassion, don’t abuse the grace that the Lord keeps giving you.

“for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.”  Proverbs 24:16

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God”  Ephesians 2:8

“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;”  Psalm 103:13
