The World’s “Okayest” Mom
I may not be the greatest mom but I am the worlds “okayest” mom. For the love.
So my daughters appointment at the orthopedic doctor yesterday went well, he put her in a cast, we go back next month for them to take a look.
Diagnosis: They think she’ll live and just broke part of her bone off
Nearly 3 weeks ago my oldest was over at friends house rollerblading after church and fell going down a hill. (And of course she had protective wear on! Except no, she didn’t. But I’ll buy her some wrist guards as soon as it heals). I always loved to rollerblade when I was younger and even well into adulthood, I didn’t fall too often, but maybe occasionally. It came very naturally to me and I would go full speed ahead, I wore my wheels out. I could skate for hours and many nights did. I haven’t done that in years. The day I donated my blades to the second hand store was a gloomy one. I really am hopeful that I will get back into a pair someday. I stopped skating because it was too painful to wear them from erythema nodosum (just something fun you get on your shins) and it made me happy when my daughter got so excited to wear hers!
Her best friend bought her a pair for her birthday in October and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her more excited about a gift than she has been about these skates. She was actually with her bestie when she fell and got hurt and I’m so thankful for that, because I can’t think of anyone else I’d want with her when she was hurt or in need of a friend. Now my kiddo is pretty disappointed she can’t skate till the cast is off but time will pass soon enough and she’ll be out there skating again. The doctor did tell her she’s not allowed to go skating without wrist guards ever again.
Ever.
It took a few weeks to get the cast, she’s been in a splint a couple weeks, so I’m thankful that we don’t have to wrap it and unwrap it for showers anymore. She actually didn’t fracture the growth plate like the first doctor we saw thought she might have done; she broke off part of the bone.
It’s fine.
For those of you unaware, my youngest got a cast on her arm three months ago, I wish I was kidding. It was the left arm also. The youngest fell and broke her arm playing in a bouncy house. .. in 3 months both my children got a cast on their left arm. I told them they were going to have to stop this nonsense before people starting calling the authorities on me or something. I was just kidding . . . kind of.
The 4 year old was super concerned on the way to the orthopedic doctor yesterday. She told me she was going to take care of her sister and hold her hand because her sister was a big baby, hey I’m not disagreeing with her, lol, but I don’t think she knows how cute she is.
Anyone else concerned with the big smile on Posie’s face? No? Just me. Well if you knew why you might be. She said, “Oh mommy, I really, really, really, really hope that it’s broken and she gets a cast. I really, really, really want to draw on it!!”
Double bonus? It’s orange which is Posie’s favorite color (they didn’t have Zoey’s favorite color: yellow). Posie’s favorite color three months ago when she got her own cast was pink. Obviously.
Some peoples kids.
Actually …. yeah, some peoples kids … told my mama I’d make her proud someday. Today is not that day. I thought I’d be funny and write, “What does Ephesians 6:1 say?”, on her cast to be funny. I figured it’d get the kids at school wanting to know what the verse meant and lead them to the Bible (win … haha) and it’d probably make some teachers/parents laugh.
Nothing wrong with it … just think it through.
Someone is going to look at it and think … that baby didn’t obey and her parents probably beat her.
Bless it all.
